Hands-on Review: Photobot

When I heard of this little program for point-and-shoot owners who don’t have a clue about how to correct their pictures, I had my doubts. But Photobot could do wonders for their pictures and their attitude towards the digital age.

Photobot (www.photobot.com), from Tribeca Labs in New York, can help snapshooters improve common mistakes. The easy-to-load application ($30, direct), searches through your computer looking for pictures to fix. Photobot then makes simple corrections, such as opening up shadows and fixing redeye, to your selected photos. (If you don’t like the idea of software running rampant through your files, choose Custom Scan in the preference selection during the program setup. This allows you to create a specific folder that Photobot has access to scan and fix pictures.)

Here’s how it works on redeye:
Before_red  After_red
Before                                            After

An example of color correction and shadow adjustment:

Before_shadow  After_shadow_2
Before                                           After

Photobot’s corrections are simple, and you can choose to keep the original file. Tribeca Labs is offering a ten-day free trial with their digital data-storage service at www.swisspicturebank.com, allowing you to store your files safely without worry of your drive crashing. For  $30 you can enjoy taking pictures without the time-consuming digital workflow, and store your shots in their data-storage system.
