Your Photos: Our Critique

I really like this photograph but there is room for improvement. To start with, the left side is so dark that you lose all detail in the palm trees and the pier. Lightening it up even a little bit makes a big difference. Secondly, the blue in the top in the sky is oversaturated, so we toned it down a bit. Overall, the composition is very good, especially the element of the shoreline running across diagonally, and the horizon is right where it should be, on-third up in the frame. The soft pastels of blue and pink in the sky and its reflection are beautiful. Good job. (Photo Submitted by David Sarkin)

You may have fixed David's shadow detail, but the 'fixed' photo has no contrast. It looks too flat.

I like the original version better. It is a much more dynamic image. I think the corrections were in the right spirit but were taken too far. I'd personally leave the sky as it is and only slightly lighten the beach and treeline.

I would go in between. I think the original was a tad too dark and the correction a bit too light. The sand in the correction in the foreground loses character.
