Tip of The Day: Pleasing Pet Photos

Dogs and cats can be difficult subjects to photograph—they can be unpredictable, excitable, and curious. Here are a few tips that will help you get a better portrait of your furry best friend.

1. Make sure your pet is relaxed, by photographing in a place they are comfortable. You will have an easier time getting them to pay attention to you rather than being distracted by sights and smells.

2. Use a broad diffused light source, such as a window on an overcast day.

3. Use a longer lens to get a natural portrait that allows you to leave them some space to roam, use a shorter lens to get those close-up shots that show off their big eyes.

4. If you’re having trouble getting them to sit still, have someone they trust pet and hold them. Use a wide aperture and more in close to crop out the human.
