Your Photo: Our Critique
Paul Michael Kane captured this image at the Eastern State Penitentiary. This is a perfect example of keeping your eyes open for a great photograph. I love the texture of the paint chipping off of the wall. The colors in this photograph work together so nicely. Great focal point, depth of field and use of light.

I'm keeping my eyes open for a great photography but I'm just not seeing one!

It's a ghost picture that's why you can't see it.

Sorry about that- small posting issue! The photo is there now, hope it was worth the wait!

A tad too dead-center for perfection, isn't it? Great exposure, though. 4.5 stars!

I really like this picture. I would've liked to see more though, but maybe the photographer intended it this way because there was nothing worth including in the surroundings. My only complain is that its too centered for my eyes to fall in and get lost in the picture. I would've liked to see it more on the top left corner instead of in the middle.
I give it 4.5 stars.

I'm also not crazy about the framing and I would have loved to have seen it shot with the light on...(or less ambient light if it IS on). I think the falloff of the light on the wall would have really made the image stand out. 4 stars from me as it stands.

Thanks so much for the 5-star rating, Melissa . . . I had a blast shooting at Eastern State Penitentiary. Addressing the framing issue, I always try to get as much in the frame as possible and crop out later. I have this matted at 11x14 and the lamp is in the top thirds. As for seeing the light on - no can do . . . the historic site has no power. This was a 20 second expsure with the only light source being a slit in the wall high above. I don't understand why everyone gets so stuck on things being in the middle. If it works, what does it matter, and this image works wonderfully. There is enough going on in the image that being centered doesn't hurt it.
