Your Photo: Our Critique

Critique 4d

Ray Wongchinda submitted this image taken with Canon 5D Mark II, with an exposure of 1/1600sec at f/2.8, ISO 60. By using aperture-priority Ray has selected a very shallow depth of field which works well.  The crop creates some nice triangles of space, especially across the bottom of the frame. This image, as simple as it seems, creates a nice graphic photo with good lines and colors. The rust on the post adds interest and color. The top right edge has some white creeping in, either crop it out or as a last resort clone it out.

Personally, I think f22 with sharper images going off to infinity might have worked better. Otherwise, composition, subject and colors are great!

If picking nits I agree with Melissa about the top right of the photo...better if blue sky cloned in.

But a brilliant photo otherwise. Rust to the left. Blue sky to the right. A great photograph "takes you there". I can almost hear the ocean waves crash nearby as the salt air causes the metal to rust inside the metal whole where paint doesn't go. I give it 4.9 stars. Great Shot!

Diamond Head

the 5D Mark II does not have ISO 60. Probably a typo.

Ota

Nice composition. However I miss a really crisp sharpness on the vertical part of the railing (rust). Probably hardly feasible @ f/2,8, especially in the corners. What about a compromise @ f/4,0?
