New Gear: Olympus E-600

Olympus_e600_blog
There has been an increase in the amount of complaining we have been hearing about the granularity some manufacturers have introduced to their DSLR selections. But, Olympus's new companion to the E-620 comes with something that even the most dedicated nay-sayer will have a hard time badmouthing: A lower price. You'll notice that the E-600 lacks the backlit buttons of its more expensive sibling, as well as the art filters that probably won't be missed by many. The two-shot multi-exposure mode is also gone, which is more of a detractor, but the differences basically stop there. And at just $599 with an ED 14-42mm f3.5-5.6 lens, it's about a full $100 cheaper. For that kind of savings, we would probably be willing to apply our own filters and combine our own multi-exposures in post. The affordable E-600 is due out in November, so it will be ready to compete for a spot in the cart of budget-minded shoppers with a craving for a real DSLR.
