Tech Support: DSLR Remote Control
Question: I need a remote shutter release
for my Sony Alpha 300. The only
models listed on the Sony website are the RM-L1AM, which seems
compatible only with the A100, and
the RM-S1AM, which doesn’t list any
compatibility. Help! Billy Haake

Answer: Get either model. The A300 will accept both of those wired remotes. The difference is the length of the cable—3 meters (9.8 feet) versus 1 meter (3.3 feet), respectively. With a higher-end Alpha, though, you’d get much greater flexibility. With the A700 and A900, Sony includes a cool wireless remote in the box. (Are you listening, Canon, Nikon, Olympus, and Pentax?)

I was searching for similar item but sony only makes wired remote for the alpha digital camera, I order the wireless remote and i received it within 3 days pluged it in my alpha 100 and it works excellent it even works the shutter on the consecutive shot on s mode. I am very please with the wireless remote.

I am sorry, but the wireless remote for my Pentax K10D was only $20 (which I prefer over a wired remote since the range is further) which is not that bad really. Also, the 2006-era camera has built-in wireless flash capabilities, as well as the ability to fine tune the white balance (which I find is much more important than having the remote in the box).
Quite frankly, as long as camera makers keep compatibility with past accessories on new products, I don't think they need to include the remote in the box since we may have the item already in our bag......
